Tahir Hussain sent to judicial custody
NEWDELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday sent suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain to 10 days’ judicial custody for instigating violence in the national capital.
Hussain was produced before chief metropolitan magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawat at the end of his one-day police remand.
Hussain was booked for his alleged role in Sharma’s murder during the communal riots in the city last month amid protests against the anti-citizenship (Amendment) Act.
He was earlier arrested on March 5 and sent to police custody in another case related to rioting in north-east Delhi.
On March 16, chief metropolitan magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawa sent Hussain to four-day police custody, saying that Hussain’s custodial interrogation was required to unearth a “larger conspiracy” in the riots
Shah Alam, Tahir’s brother, was also arrested in connection with the riots and is currently in judicial custody.
The national capital saw violence in its north-east areas last month, which resulted in the killing of at least 53 people.
