India begins drone surveillan­ce, deploys mountain forces, ITBP

The Indian Army wants the Chinese PLA to retreat from forward positions occupied by it in the Finger area (a cluster of strategic features) in the north bank of Pangong Tso. The army also wants China to remove bunkers, pillboxes and observatio­n posts that have come up between Finger 4 and Finger 8 in the last seven weeks, and return to Finger 8

NEWDELHI: In a stand-off with a belligeren­t Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) at four points in East Ladakh , India has increased technical drone surveillan­ce of the area even as the Indo-tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has inducted more battalions into the sector to support army along the 3,488 km Line of Actual Control (LAC), government and military officials familiar with the matter said.

India has also deployed its specialise­d high-altitude forces along LAC to repel any transgress­ion in the western, middle or eastern sectors, the officials added.
