HALEP IN DOUBT FOR PALERMO OPEN TENNIS

ROME: The upcoming Palermo Ladies Open could lose its biggest draw in world No 2 Simona Halep from Romania after Italy decided to impose a mandatory quarantine of 14 days for people coming from Romania and Bulgaria amid the coronaviru­s pandemic. Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza said people who have been in Romania and Bulgaria in the past 14 days will be quarantine­d upon arrival in Italy, a move aimed at preventing the importatio­n of Covid-19 cases. Palermo will mark the first profession­al tennis event across the WTA and men’s ATP Tours since March with action scheduled to get underway in the Sicilian capital from Aug. 3.

Sourav Ganguly tests negative for Covid-19

KOLKATA: BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has tested negative for Covid-19 after he gave his samples as a precaution­ary measure. The former India captain has been in home quarantine for more than a week after his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly had tested positive for the disease.

“He (Ganguly) is living with his ailing mother and family, so as a precaution­ary measure he took the test and the report came negative on Friday,” a source said.

Panchkula to host Khelo India Games next year

NEW DELHI The 4th edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will take place in Panchkula, Haryana next year. This year’s edition has been postponed due to Covid-19. “Usually the Khelo India Youth Games take place in January of every year. However, this time owing to the pandemic, we are postponing it. I am happy to announce Haryana as the host. It will be held after the Tokyo Olympics,” said Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday.
