nIMPHAL The Bharatiya Janata Party(bjp) led coalition government in Manipur won the trust motion by voice vote in the state assembly on Monday evening, party leaders said.

“Manipur BJP government has won the trust vote. The ayes have it. Devious plans of Congress to destablise the government have failed. Congrats CM N Biren Singhji,” Rajat Sethi, advisor to the CM tweeted.

Moving the confidence motion, chief minister N Biren Singh highlighted various development projects which are being taken up in the state apart from stating that the government is marching forward.

On July 28,the Opposition Congress party issued notice for a no-confidence motion against the Bjp-led coalition government’s alleged failure to hand over a 2018 drugs haul case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Both the BJP and the Congress had issued whips to their 18 and 24 MLAS respectively. In 53-member House including the Speaker, 28 ruling Mlas(including Deputy speaker) were present in the house while 16 opposition congress MLAS headed by opposition leader and former chief minister O Ibobi Singh were present.

The 60-member Manipur assembly was reduced to 53 after 4 members were disqualified under the anti-defection law and 3 BJP MLAS resigned, and joined the Congress.

The Bjp-led coalition government in the state plunged into a political crisis on June 17 after six MLAS withdrew their support while three BJP legislators quit the party and joined the Congress. However, four National People’s Party (NPP) MLAS later returned to the coalition following the intervention of top BJP leaders and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is also the NPP president.
