15-year-old murdered after rape, 2 of family also killed, say police

RAIPUR: Six people were arrested for allegedly raping and killing a 15-year-old girl in Korba district, police said on Wednesday. The victim’s father and four-year-old niece were also killed by the accused.

Police have arrested six people in this connection and investigat­ion is going on, said a police officer.

Police said the incident took place in a village under Lemru police station area on January 29 and came to light on Tuesday when the bodies were found. The deceased man was working a cattle grazer at the house of one of the accused.

The accused were identified as Santram Majhwar (45), Abdul Jabbar (29), Anil Kumar Sarthi (20), Pardeshi Ram Panika (35), Anand Ram Panika (25) and Uamshankar Yadav (21), all natives of Satrenga village in the district, Superinten­dent of Police, Korba, Abhishek Meena, said.

He said on January 29, Manjhwar was going to drop the man, his daughter (15) and granddaugh­ter (4) to their village on his motorcycle.

“On way, they stopped at a forest and the accused consumed liquor and other accused also joined him. Manjhwar and one another accused raped the girl.

All six accused subsequent­ly thrashed the three with stones and sticks. They later dumped the rape victim below a rock at the foot of the mountain in the forest and escaped from the spot,” said the SP.

On Tuesday , the victim’s relative lodged a complaint after which police detained Manjhwar. Police said that Manjhwar confessed the crime after which other five were also arrested from the nearby villages. Based on the statement of the accused, police reached the crime spot, where they found the injured rape victim alive and two others dead.

“She was immediatel­y rushed to a local hospital, but succumbed to her injuries before reaching there,” Meena said.

The accused were booked under sections IPC sections 302 (murder), 376 (2)G (gangrape) and provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, he added.
