SEWA FOR OXYGEN: GIFTING PEOPLE A BREATH OF LIFE
The second wave of Covid-19 saw a sharp rise in distress and despair in the country. Unable to bear it, Delhi-based philanthropist, Vikramjit Singh Sahney decided to stop feeling “helpless” and swung into action! “It was scary a month back. I realised the fragility of human life. I suffered Covid twice and was passionate about helping people. That’s why I got into this self-service or sewa mode,” says Sahney.
His charitable institution, Sun Foundation, has been relentlessly providing donations to help hospitals, build Covid-19 care centres, and support NGOS and gurdwaras in relief work. The foundation has supplied over a thousand oxygen concentrators to many
Covid-19 care centres such as Guru Tegh Bahadur Covid Care Centre, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj and other gurdwaras in Delhi, Punjab, Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand). Last year, Sahney also donated Delhi’s first-ever corona mobile testing clinic and ambulances.
“Our service is just a drop in the ocean but it makes a lot of difference if everybody does their bit. God is guiding me. We partnered with Guru Tegh Bahadur Covid Care Centre and supplied oxygen to various centres and societies in Delhi’s Pitampura, Greater Kailash, Rajouri Garden, and Defence Colony. We also delivered concentrators to over 20 centres in Punjab,” he says. He is also donating 2,000 D-type oxygen cylinders to Punjab’s rural areas, and a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen plant

guidance. It is important to eat a nutrient-rich diet, focusing on the nutrients that smokers tend to be deficient in while quitting. “Smoking increases toxin levels in the body, which interfere with the absorption of nutrients. So, people who are trying to quit smoking need to add vitamin B12 rich items, like eggs, cheese, milk, and yogurt in their diet, failing which they must consider supplementation. They must eat at least one cruciferous vegetable, like kale, broccoli, cauliflower, or cabbage, every day,” asserts nutritionist Kavita Devgan.
