DU’S FINAL-YEAR ONLINE EXAMS BEGIN; TEACHERS, STUDENTS SAY NO SNAGS THIS TIME
The Delhi University administration on Monday began conducting the finalyear semester online open book examination (OBE) for around 96,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students of different colleges and the Non-collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB). Around 120,000 students from the School of Open Learning also began appearing for their papers from Monday.
Several students, teachers and principals said the exams were conducted smoothly as compared to last year when several students had complained of technical glitches. Bijayalaxmi Nanda, principal of Miranda House, said, “We did not come across any issues so far as compared to last year.” The university has opted to conduct online exams in view of the pandemic.
Student organisations in the varsity, too, said they had not received any complaints of glitches this year.
Abhigyan, a final-year undergraduate student of History at Ramjas College and member of the All India Students Association (AISA), said, “There was some confusion over back (arrears) papers but, so far, I have not come across any complaints of glitches. We have also been raising the issues faced by students with disabilities who faced trouble in accessing the OBE portal.”
The university’s dean (examinations) DS Rawat said the tests were conducted smoothly on Monday.
“Generally, there used to be complaints during the first half -- of students being unable to download question papers or other issues. But, no such issue was reported today (Monday). So far, 14 colleges said no student has opted to submit their answer sheets over email instead of the OBE website, indicating that the portal was functioning smoothly.” he said, adding that the university had provided visually challenged students with an option to use a scribe for their papers.
