ONE ARRESTED FOR SELLING BRASS BRICKS AS GOLD FROM MUGHAL ERA
GURUGRAM: The Faridabad police have arrested a Palwal resident for allegedly cheating people from other states on the pretext of selling them metallic bricks as gold bricks from the Mughal era that were excavated in Jimrawat village of Palwal.
Police said the suspect, identified as Ishak, is a member of the notorious Tatlu gang, and has duped over 30 people over the past two years.
Ishak was arrested following investigation into a complaint by a Delhi resident who said that he was getting frequent calls about a man who claimed to have a 200year-old gold brick. The complainant, Anuj Kumar, a resident of Badarpur in Delhi, works in Ballabgarh, approached the police suspecting it to be a fraud.
Faridabad commissioner of police OP Singh said Kumar decided to meet the suspect and alerted the police in advance. “He asked Ishak to meet him at the Ballabhgarh Metro station and assured him of purchasing the gold brick,” he said.
Singh said Kumar met the suspect at the gate, where police were already deployed in plainclothes. “The suspect told Kumar that his brother is a JCB machine driver in a remote area in Palwal and found the brick during digging at a site,” he said.
The police caught him from the spot and recovered a golden brick that was found to be made of brass. A case was registered at Ballabhgarh police station.
The police have learnt that Ishak has cheated people from Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Odisha, using the same modus operandi.
