The Supreme Court on Thursday paved the way for stray dogs to be fed at designated spots in colonies after it stayed its own order passed two months which put on hold a direction by the Delhi high court issuing guidelines to this effect. A bench of justices passed the order while dealing with applications filed by several animal welfare organisations which claimed that pursuant to the stay imposed by the SC, animal lovers were being restrained from providing food and water to stray dogs, resulting in the latter’s death. The Court was informed that the HC order came in a private suit filed between two individuals who had a dispute over feeding dogs inside their property. The dispute was amicably resolved and the petitioner before SC (Humane Foundation) had no legal right to challenge the order, leading the Court to dispose of the petition and vacate the interim order.

Cooking gas has become costlier for about 305 million consumers as state-run oil firms on Thursday raised the price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by ₹3.50 per 14.2kg domestic cylinder -- the second price hike in less than two weeks. With the latest hike in the price of cooking gas, a domestic 14.2kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will cost ₹1,003 per refill, ₹1,029 in Kolkata, ₹1,002.50 in Mumbai and ₹1,018.50 in Chennai. Domestic LPG suppliers had last raised cooking gas prices by ₹50 per cylinder on May 7 because of rising international energy costs due to the Ukraine war. Commercial LPG has also become costlier by ₹8 per 19kg cylinder, with the new price at ₹2,354 in Delhi on Thursday -- the seventh hike in this calendar year, according to an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) price notification.
