LONDON/BEIJING: Four photographs of Prime Minister Boris Johnson drinking at a Downing Street gathering when the UK was under lockdown have emerged just as his government braces for the release of a report into the so-called Partygate scandal.
The photos, published by ITV News, show Johnson proposing a toast with a group of at least nine people next to a table with several bottles of alcohol and party food. The pictures were taken at an event for Johnson’s former communications chief Lee Cain on November 13, 2020, ITV said.
The No. 10 press office wasn’t immediately able to comment on the images when contacted by Bloomberg.
Beijing extends WFH order as cases rise
Beijing on Monday extended its work from home order (WFH) after the Chinese capital reported its biggest daily tally of
Covid-19 cases, sparking fears of a full lockdown. Beijing reported 99 Covid-19 cases on Monday for Sunday, which was up from a previous daily average of around 50, pushing the total caseload over 1,400 in the ongoing month-long outbreak.
Technically, Beijing is not under a lockdown but wide-ranging restrictions like the closure of public transport, taxi services and public venues in many areas along with the ban on in-restaurant dining means that the majority of residents have remained mostly homebound.
