A government pre-university college in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district has suspended six students for violating the dress code after they wore the hijab on campus, despite multiple warnings. District administration officials said the college principal intimidated the six about the decision to suspend them, which was taken following the Karnataka high court’s order upholding the state government’s ban on the hijab in educational institutions that have a mandated uniform. “The principal of the college held a meeting with management and faculty. In the meeting, all members were of the opinion that the students violating the high court order required strict action since the warnings given earlier were not respected. The six were given enough chances to follow the government order and the decision of the high court prohibiting the wearing of hijab,” the official said.

Renowned Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, had several heart blockages and could have been saved if CPR was administered on time, a doctor who conducted the autopsy said on Thursday. KK died on Tuesday night due to a massive cardiac arrest after a live show in Kolkata. “He had a major blockage in the left main coronary artery and small blockages in various other arteries and sub-arteries. Excessive excitement during the live show caused stoppage of blood flow leading to cardiac arrest that claimed his life,” the medical practitioner told PTI on condition of anonymity. The artiste could have been saved if someone had administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately after he fell unconscious, the doctor said.
