Behavioral changes that one can adopt to look more convincing

- Gaurav Bhagat

Self-confidence is an important aspect in every part of life, especially in one’s professional career. To present oneself as convincing and trustworthy, confidence is non-negotiable. Mostly for the leaders, confidence plays a key role in putting together a team by making them to listen to his views and suggestions in a convincing tone.

Lack of confidence can have a serious impact on leading a team towards achieving a shared goal.

Even for non-leaders, confidence is vital for a good team player, who can make instant connections and lead towards healthy team building.

Key factor of self-confidence lies in trusting one’s own judgment, capabilities and abilities. Confidence in human behavior can be measured by observing how someone speaks – voice tone, projection of voice, use of words, etc., his/her energy and enthusiasm and expertise and knowledge about something. People with less confidence might not achieve as much success as they deserve because they fail to convince people of their expertise. In contrast, a confident person, regardless of imperfections, might make people believe in them.

However, some simple behavioral changes might do the trick in boosting the confidence of a person.

Let’s explore some of the easy behavioral changes that might help professionals interact in a more convincing manner.

Body language

It is not unnatural for someone to be in a negative state at some points, which may lead to slouching, shallow breathing or bowing the heads. To look confident, one should power to change and control how the body moves and make oneself presentable.

Posture and breathing can be two factors which can change the body language. Making eye contact, shaking hands firmly and standing up straight can make one look more self-assured.

Self-talk

What someone talks to in his/ her own head has a massive impact on the person, emotionally and mentally. Negative selftalks will inevitably make a person less confident.

Hence, to portray a positive outlook of one self, one should always build a positive view of himself within his head. Though there are several events as the life unfolds – negative and positive – and the thoughts of which might be constantly get narrated in the head, to stay confident, only the events with positive outcomes should be harvested in the mind.

Self-belief

Another major reason one can lose confidence and might not sound convincing is while doubting himself. Even the slightest of self-doubt can lead to a situation where not only others convincing oneself might get difficult.

Self-doubt can often be triggered by a particular failure or struggle to make progress in an area. To avoid this and create self-belief the negative mindset that created the self-doubt should be avoided.

To eliminate negative thoughts, serving and helping others can be a solution. Selfdoubt is certain to reduce with appreciation from someone else for the work one has done for them.

Fear of failure

It is a common saying that “if you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee there is no hope”.

Similarly, if a person fears failing, there is a healthy chance that he will fail. Fear of failing can often be instilled while someone is growing.

For many, failing becomes a major psychological threat and might silently sabotage the chances of success. It can often be derived from the thought what others are thinking or how someone is being judged. To eliminate the fear of failure, it is the key to take failure as a part of life and continue trying. It should always be thought that even after multiple failures, if one keeps trying, people might appreciate him for not giving up.
