Distance education can fulfil changing needs of students: Guv

UPRTOU’s 15th convocatio­n 28,659 students awarded degrees

PRAYAGRAJ : Noted thinker and national organising secretary of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal Mukul Kanitkar on Thursday said the young generation of India should do regular introspect­ion for their bright future.

“It is the duty of our teachers to influence the students through their ethics and knowledge. The work of external structure of our education system and creative reestablis­hment of the inner soul is one of the biggest challenges of this century and the National Education Policy2020 tries to resolve this issue,” he said. Kanitkar was speaking during the 15th convocatio­n ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) at its Phaphamau campus.

He said the present era was an era of social discourse and inclusion of the deprived people of the society in the overall developmen­t is the top priority of the new National Education Policy.

Kanitkar said Covid-19 has forced the entire academic world to look in new contexts.

“Due to the rapid pace of social changes, only distance open education can fulfill the changing needs of students. Undoubtedl­y the distance education is relevant not only for the present but also for the future,” he added.

UP governor and UPRTOU chancellor Anandiben Patel while presiding over the ceremony said education was the first foundation of developmen­t and society can be change through it.

“Along with education, health and nutrition of children too is essential and for this the role of family and teachers is immense,” she said.

She also added that it was the responsibi­lity of the department of secondary and higher education to adopt five anganwadi centers and support their overall growth.

The governor also called for eliminatio­n of social malpractic­es like dowry for which she called upon the students to come together and shun such evils.

Vice-chancellor prof KN Singh shared the achievemen­ts of the varsity. In the convocatio­n ceremony held in offline mode with a limited presence of guests owing to the pandemic, 19 gold medals were awarded to students of which went to boys and 14 were bagged by female students.

There were a total of 28,659 students who were awarded their degrees, out of which 15,492 were males and 13167 female students. Barring the medal winners, all students took part in the function online.

Chancellor Medal was awarded to Lakshmi Gupta from Gorakhpur study centre of the university. Newly constructe­d Atal auditorium was also inaugurate­d during the ceremony.

Guv inaugurate­s restored Vizianagra­m Hall

Later, in the evening, the governor inaugurate­d the historical Vizianagra­m Hall located in the science faculty campus of Allahabad University (AU). She also released a special postal cover on this heritage building which has been recently restored by AU.
