CM to release encyclopae­dia of Ramayana today

LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will release the first edition of the global encyclopae­dia of the Ramayana on Saturday. The encyclopae­dia has been designed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. The first edition will be released in English and thereafter it will be released in Hindi and Tamil languages next month.

Several scholars of the country and of the world, including additional secretary, ministry of external affairs, Akhilesh Mishra, will also be present in the state capital for the event, said the state government in a statement released on Friday.

The Ayodhya Research Institute, Ayodhya, a body of the culture department, Uttar Pradesh government, is preparing the encyclopae­dia. The CM will also launch an e-book on this encyclopae­dia. The state culture department, in collaborat­ion with the ministry of external affairs, is behind this project. It involves combining the tangible and intangible legacy of the Ramayana from 205 countries of the world.

For the project, a workshop was organised by the department which included 70 scholars from West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisga­rh, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and several other states.

“There is a plan to publish encyclopae­dia of Ramayana in 200 volumes. For this, the Ayodhya Research Institute has set up a board of editors and advisors across the country and the world,” said Shishir, special secretary, department of culture, state government.

“The first edition has been designed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur,” he added. On the occasion, Ramayana will also be released in

Oriya, Malayalam, Urdu and Assamese languages.

In addition to this, oldest and authentic book about Ayodhya, ‘Ayodhya Mahatma’ will be released in English language. The CM had directed to conduct a survey of all literature available on Ramayana in the world at the review meeting of the Ayodhya Research Institute on May 30, 2018. Evidence of the Ramayana’s tangible heritage, architectu­re, sculpture and painting are found in several countries, including Pakistan, Iran and Iraq, besides European some countries.
