DEHRADUN: The sit-in protest by the parents of the 19-yearold receptionist, who was murdered in September 2022, entered its seventh day on Monday in Srinagar town in Pauri Garhwal district, people aware of the matter said.

The protest, started on Tuesday, is being staged under the banner of Pahadi Swabhiman Sena near the Pipalchori Roadways bus stand in Pauri.

The parents of the deceased woman, who worked in a resort in Chilla, are seeking action against the VIP whose name is propping up in the case.

The victim’s parents have also urged the state government to stop the alleged harassment of people who have been helping them in ensuring justice for their daughter.

The 19-year-old was allegedly murdered in 2022 by three accused, including expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinod Arya’s son Pulkit Arya and his two staff members, for refusing to provide “extra services” to a VIP guest, according to police.

The incident took place on September 18 2022, while the woman’s body was recovered from the Chilla canal six days later.

Along with Arya, who owned the resort, two others — manager Saurabh Bhaskar, and assistant manager Ankit Gupta — were also arrested for the murder. In January this year, a video that was uploaded on the social media platform of a local news outlet purportedly showed the victim’s mother accusing chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami of making “false promises” and doing “nothing to ensure justice” in the case.

She also suspected a BJP leader to be the “VIP guest” and suspected him to be the VIP guest for whom the victim was being pressurised to provide “extra services”— euphemism for sex work demanded by a “VIP guest”.

Congress MLAs raised the issue of justice to the Pauri Garhwal murdered receptionist woman during the Budget session which ended on February 29.

“I am seeking justice not just for my daughter but for girls in the state whose parents are now scared to send them outside for education,” the victim’s mother said.
