COP TRIES TO RESOLVE DISPUTE AT SHIVRATRI FAIR, STABBED TO DEATH

JAIPUR: A 32-year-old constable in Sirohi was stabbed to death by a group of men on Friday when he went to resolve a dispute between two groups during a Mahashivra­tri fair, said police.

Police detained three people on Saturday morning.

“The two groups comprising over 30 to 40 people got into a heated argument in a Mahashivra­tri fair in Swarupganj village on Friday night. They were under the influence of alcohol. When police got the informatio­n, the on-duty constable in the fair Niranjan Singh was sent to resolve the matter,” said Kama Singh, the SHO of Swarupganj police station.

However, the arguing mob suddenly attacked the constable and stabbed him multiple times.

“The other constable along with the Sirohi SP Anil Kumar and Pindwara DSP Juthu Singh immediatel­y reached the spot and rushed the victim to a local hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival,” added Singh.

The police said, they have booked over 12 people under IPC sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 332 (voluntaril­y causing harm in order to deter a public worker from doing his duties), 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 347 (detaining someone illegally), and 348 (wrongful confinemen­t), 143 (unlawful assembly).

Meanwhile, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot extended his condolence­s to the family of the constable.

“Respectful tribute to constable Niranjan Singh who was martyred in Swarupganj in Sirohi while serving his duty. Our condolence­s are with his family in this hour of grief. The state government should arrest the murderers of Niranjan Singh and ensure strictest action,” he added.
