Kashi Nyay Samagam begins at BHU
VARANAS: I The two-day Kashi Nyaya Samagam kicked off at the faculty of law, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Saturday, aiming to explore the intricacies of Indian traditional law and the legal system grounded in Indian Jurisprudence.
Organised by the Faculty of Law, the Kashi Nyaya Samagam is being held in collaboration with esteemed entities including the ministry of education and culture, government of India, the National Legal Rights
Protection Council in Chennai, the Bar Council of India, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, and several other renowned law universities across the nation, according to a press statement.
As the chief guest and keynote speaker at the Samagam, justice Ashok Bhushan, former justice of the Supreme Court of India, highlighted the unique concepts underlying the event, aimed at uncovering the unexplored facets of the legal system.
Referencing Robert Lingat’s work, “The Classical Law of India,” justice Bhushan emphasised the integration of religion and philosophical scripts into Indian law, stressing their role in fostering a fulfilling life.
Furthermore, justice Bhushan underscored the importance of integrity and impartiality in judicial decisionmaking.
He contrasted the efficiency of the ancient Indian judicial system with the current colonial-style system, advocating for a revitalization of Indian legal practices. Justice Bhushan concluded his speech with the Supreme Court motto, “Yato Dharmastato Jayah,” meaning “Where there is Dharma, there will be Victory.”
