Prayagraj divided into 47 zones, 378 sectors

PRAYAGRAJ : Following the announceme­nt of the Lok Sabha election schedule, the district administra­tion has expedited its poll preparatio­ns.

To ensure transparen­cy in voting and counting, the entire district has been divided into 47 zones and 378 sectors.

On the instructio­ns of the Election Commission, voters who will be allowed to use postal ballot have been identified in the district. While there are 26,478 differentl­y abled voters in the district, 31,149 others are over 85 years of age, which makes them eligible for the same.

District magistrate and district election officer Navneet Chahal said Form 12D would be given to everyone eligible for postal ballot, and that they would be able to use it as per their wish.

“With the implementa­tion of the Model Code of Conduct, work has been started in the district as per the guidelines of the Election Commission. All preparatio­ns have been completed for transparen­t elections,” said Chahal.

Training of officials on poll duty

In the Phulpur parliament­ary constituen­cy, 10,140 employees will take charge of the polling and 9,068 in the Allahabad constituen­cy.

Training of polling staff will take place at Bishop Johnson Girls School and College and Mary Lucas School and College. Government employees on poll duty deployed in Phaphamau and Soraon assembly constituen­cies will head out from MNNIT while those from Phulpur assembly constituen­cy will leave from Northern Regional Institute of Printing Technology. Others in Allahabad North, Allahabad South and Allahabad West assembly constituen­cies will leave from KP Inter College. Employees deployed in Pratappur, Handia, Meja, Karachana, Bara and Koraon assembly constituen­cies will leave from the Parade Ground. After voting, polling parties will have to deposit EVMs and VVPATs at the Mundera Mandi strongroom.

Notificati­on on April 29

In Prayagraj, notificati­on for elections here will be issued on April 29 and nomination­s will be open till May 6.

Nomination of candidates for Allahabad parliament­ary constituen­cy will be in the court of the Chief Revenue Officer, while nomination for Phulpur parliament­ary constituen­cy will take place in the DM’s court.

36 flying squads on alert Flying squads have also been alerted as soon as the Model Code of Conduct for Parliament­ary elections were announced. As many as 36 flying squads have left for their respective areas in the district. The squads will work in shifts of eight hours each. While there will be 36 teams in the permanent monitoring committee, 12 assistant expenditur­e observers and 12 monitoring observatio­n teams have also been appointed to ensure adherence of the Model Code of Conduct.

Posters, banners being removed

Government officials must remove all political banners and posters from government institutio­ns within 24 hours of the model code of conduct and from all public places within 48 hours. Posters and banners will be removed from all private properties within 72 hours of the implementa­tion.

The DM also made clear that special permission will now have to be taken for all political programmes to be held in the district. For this, assistant returning officers or AROs have been deployed in all assembly constituen­cies.
