BJP seeking support from beneficiaries to ensure win in polls

-

PRAYAGRAJ: Determined to retain both the Allahabad and Phulpur parliamentary seats in Prayagraj in the upcoming elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) district leadership has decided to reach out to beneficiaries of central and state governments’ welfare schemes to rope in their support.

Besides carrying out a doorto-door beneficiary connect drive, the party is all set to organise ‘Labharthi Sammelan’ or beneficiaries’ meet at mandal levels to woo them, said party leaders.

“We will try to garner support of lakhs of beneficiaries of welfare schemes offered...as they have directly benefitted under the BJP rule and seen the effectiveness of our party’s peoplecentric functioning,” said a party spokesperson, Rajesh Kesarwani.

This exercise is a part of the state- and countrywide drive by the BJP as part of which it wishes to tap all 92 crore beneficiaries of government welfare schemes and get them to not just vote in favour of the party but also motivate others to do the same, he added.

Kesarwani said all party leaders, including MPs, MLAs, the mayor and office-bearers, had been roped in for the mission and a list of people who were contacted during the door-todoor visit was also being compiled. “The drive will be followed by ‘Labharthi Sammelan’ at mandal level, which includes 15 mandals in Prayagraj city, 20 in the trans-Yamuna area and 25 in the trans-Ganga area of Prayagraj alone,” he added.

The party leaders at mandaland booth-levels have been asked to strengthen booth-level committees before the elections. The party workers would also apprise eligible voters about the development works carried out by the BJP governments during the exercise.

The plan of countering opposition is also a part of the campaign. While party workers have already been interacting with the beneficiaries as part of an outreach programme, special sessions are also to be held to train the workers to more efficiently engage with the beneficiaries during the Lok Sabha polls.
