PITHORAGARH: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday attacked the Congress, saying that the opposition party promotes only one family, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cares about development.

Addressing the second election meeting for BJP candidate from Almora, Ajay Tamta, in Didihat, Dhami said: “The Congress talks about only one family, while the BJP only cares about development. The Congress had even opposed the creation of Uttarakhand state when then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ensured its creation.”

Dhami said that besides becoming the first state in the country to pass the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Uttarakhand has achieved several landmarks in the last two years of BJP’s rule.

“We have introduced a law to make miscreants liable to pay for damages caused by them during riots,” he said. Dhami said various welfare schemes of the Narendra Modi-led government have benefitted all sections of society, including women, youngsters, poor, and former armymen. “While 2.30 lakh families in the state are getting free ration, 1.80 lakh families received LPG cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme free of cost,” he said. “While the previous Congress governments used to talk about the lack of funds for development works, the Modi government has enough funds to fulfill the demands of people,” he said. “They talk about promoting ‘parivarwad’. But they don’t talk about the son of defence minister Rajnath Singh, Pankaj Singh...Jay Shah holds such a high post in the BCCI, does he hold any qualification?” he said.
