-

GORAKHPUR: Police have lodged a case against an assistant professor, two resident doctors and 35 junior doctors of Baba Raghav Das Medical College for vandalising a medical shop, looting cash and mobile phone under relevant sections on Sunday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday evening when an assistant professor of pharmacology department of the medical college Dr Amit Sharma parked his two-wheeler in front of the medical shop. The medical shop owner strongly objected to it and allegedly used abusive language against him and thrashed him.

Enraged over the misbehavior by the shop owner with the assistant professor, junior doctors went on rampage and vandalised the medical shop and created a ruckus.

Two days later, the medical shop owner Prashant Kumar lodged a police complaint against the assistant professor, two resident doctors and 35 junior doctors for vandalising the shop, looting cash and mobile phone from the shop on Sunday evening. SP North Jitendra Kumar said that police have registered a case following a written complaint by the medical shop owner and initiated an inquiry into the incident. Any action would be taken after proper investigation and verification of the CCTV footage.

However, he said the situation is normal as the issue was not too big.

On Monday, security around medical college was beefed up as the junior doctors were enraged over alleged one-sided police action.

Meanwhile, the hospital administration contacted the authorities apprehending the work boycott call by the resident doctors if any arrest was made without proper inquiry. They said in such a situation, emergency services would be affected.
