5 HELD IN DELHI FOR DUPING KIN OF KIRTI CHAKRA AWARDEE: STF

DEHRADUN: Special Task Force (STF) of Uttarakhan­d police has busted a gang of cyber criminals and arrested five people from Delhi-NCR region on charges of duping family members of a slain soldier who was bestowed with Kirti Chakra for his bravery during the Kargil war, according to senior police officers familiar with the matter.

Senior superinten­dent of police (STF) Ayush Aggarwal said the STF has arrested five members of the gang and recovered 20 mobile phones, two laptops, 42 SIM cards, 42 debit cards, 15 fake identity cards like Aadhaar card, PAN card etc and over ₹ 1 lakh cash from their possession.

The accused were arrested on Wednesday in Delhi NCR and brought to Dehradun on Thursday.

He said the accused were identified as Kapil Arora (33), Rahul Kumar Dutta (34), Ravi Saini (33), Rajesh Kumar Yadav (32), and Anurag Shukla (33).

Aggarwal said they had committed fraud earlier as well worth lakhs by calling the families of the Kargil martyr by pretending to be the chief vigilance officer (Defence Ministry) and an officer of the Sainik Welfare Board. “The accused used to commit fraud by obtaining informatio­n about names and mobile numbers of martyrs and retired senior citizens through Google and other means,” he said.

Aggarwal said that the complaint was filed a few days ago by a senior citizen, resident of Gumaniwala lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station Dehradun. He added that this gang was being operated by the accused in Delhi/NCR area for the last five-six months.

THE ACCUSED WERE ARRESTED ON WEDNESDAY IN DELHI NCR AND BROUGHT TO DEHRADUN ON THURSDAY.
