Top jewellery trends from the Cannes red carpet

For her long-awaited return to the Cannes film festival, US director Sofia Coppola bedazzled with stunning antique pieces.

Heart-cut platinum diamond studs, a white gold watch (set with 497 brilliant-cut diamonds) and matching statement platinum onyx and diamond bow brooch from 1928, provided the perfect foil for the slick monochrome ensemble from the Chanel Métiers d'Art collection, Coppola wore to the premiere of her film The Beguiled. Coppola shared a red-carpet moment with leading lady Nicole Kidman whose striking diamond chandelier earrings perfectly complemented her flapper-esque Michael Kors gown.

US screen star Elle Fanning chose prim cultured pearl earrings and matching choker with a pearl and diamond pendant. Emerging as one of this year's favourite coloured stones, emeralds made a noteworthy return to the spotlight thanks to French model Cindy Bruna.
