Celebrations galore for Lithuania
All one needs is a reason to party. For members of the Lithuanian Embassy, the reasons to celebrate on a Monday evening were aplenty.
“Linas Linkevicius, our Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania is with us after four years. Also, we’re celebrating Lithuania’s 100th anniversary as a republic, and [of course] Diwali, one of the most important festivals of India,” said Laimonas Talat-Kelpša, ambassador of Lithuania to India, who hosted a get-together at the Embassy of Lithuania.
Eminent personalities from Delhi, and diplomats from various embassies joined in the celebration, wherein fairy lights were lit up to a loud cheer.
“Lithuanian and Indian languages have the same root, and there are about 108 words that are similar,” added Talat-Kelpša, addressing a crowd that was enjoying the rounds of exotic bubblies and delicious snacks like garlic prawns and honey mustard sausages.
“We also have the going around fire thing at marriages, like you do,” he joked.
