Fake degree: Tomar summoned as accused
NEW DELHI: Former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar has been summoned as an accused by a court which took cognisance of the charge sheet in a fake degree case.
Police said investigations have revealed that Tomar’s law and BSc degrees are fake. They said that he had forged documents and obtained fake marksheets since he could not finish his formal college education.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) Sandeep Garg has summoned 13 others, besides Tomar, as accused, including employees of Bihar’s Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, from where Tomar allegedly obtained the law degree.
“Though accused Anirudh Das, RR Poddar, Surendra Prasad Singh, Ram Avtar Sharma and Ramashish Purbhe have not been chargesheeted, a perusal of the record shows that Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) had issued instructions which were not followed and complied with by these accused,” the court noted.
“Issue summons to accused Jitender Singh Tomar, notice to his surety and summons to accused Bare Narayan Singh, Razi Ahmad, Rajendra Prasad Singh, Janardan Prasad Yadav, Dinesh Kumar Shrivastava, Anil Kumar Singh, Niranjan Sharma, Sadanand Rai, Anirudh Das, RR Poddar, Surendra Prasad Singh, Ram Avtar Sharma and Ramashish Purbhe,” it said, posting the matter on April 19.
An FIR was registered against Tomar on June 8, 2015, at Hauz Khas police station for alleged offences of cheating, forgery, using forged documents as genuine, forgery with intent to cheat and criminal conspiracy under the IPC. Having failed to finish his graduation from two Delhi University colleges, Tomar was “desperate to get a degree”, reads the chargesheet.
“Tomar studied only till Class 12. He obtained a fake BSc degree from Faizabad’s Awadh University in 1986-87. Later he got admission in the Munger Law college affiliated to TMBU. As per the varsity’s record, Tomar had failed but he was still given a law degree,” a police officer said.
