Azadpur crash: DTC driver says he was not speeding

-

NEWDELHI: Ranveer Singh, driver of the DTC bus that lost control and crushed two people on Wednesday afternoon, told the police that the accident was triggered by the tyre burst.

He said he was not guilty since he was driving properly and had fled the spot because he got scared after the bus hit the e-rickshaws.

The incident was reported from northwest Delhi’s Azadpur. Singh, who is working with DTC for the past five years, was arrested on Wednesday evening and is now out on bail.

“He told us that he cried and sat inside for a few minutes inside the bus repenting till a local came to him and asked him to flee. He said that the local told him that the public was coming for him and if he wanted to save his life he must flee,” a police officer said.

Though the police have recorded his statement, it still needs to be verified what led to the accident. “The driver said he was not speeding. We have roped in experts who will examine the bus. It is unclear why the bus went out of control,” an officer said.
