NEWDELHI: Almost 55,000 students had been admitted to various Delhi University colleges by the end of enrolment under the sixth list on Tuesday. Officials said a seventh list could come out as a few seats are still available at some colleges.

The university has 60-odd constituent colleges with about 56,000 undergraduate seats. Of these, about 50,000 are for meritbased undergraduate courses, said MK Pandit, chairman of the admissions committee.

“Almost 55,000 admissions are done. So we are technically through. The problem is that while some colleges have had to deal with over-admission, others still have a few seats left. So we are considering coming out with a seventh list, possibly on July 27 or 28,” said a DU official, who works closely with the admission process.

At Shyam Lal Evening College, over one hundred seats are vacant. Shyam Lal Evening was the only college to open six courses for admission.

“We have admitted around 450 students to our 570 seats. We have had a lot of withdrawals too. So we definitely have seats left,” said a college official.

Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma, which had 11 of its available 17 courses open for admissions, managed to fill the seats to these courses under the sixth list but have had to deal with cancellations in others.

“B Com (Hons), for example, had been closed in the last two lists. But we have had a few cancellations during the last round of admissions, which means now we will have a few seats left,” said Gyantosh Jha, principal of ARSD.

But admissions have closed at most sought after colleges..

“We will most probably not have any seats left in the general category. We have had to deal with over admissions in many. But there may be a few seats left in reserved categories. Admissions to persons with disabilities and other reserved categories have been a little slow,” said Pratibha Jolly, principal, Miranda House.
