A senior home ministry official said the ministry has asked the UP government for the sequence of events that led to the clashes as well as death of Chandan Gupta. Two others suffered grievous injuries in the ensuing clashes, including Lakhimpur Kheri resident Mohammed Akram who was driving through Kasganj town on Friday night on his way to Aligarh. At least three shops, two buses and a car were torched during the clashes

“MHA has asked the state government to send a comprehensive report about the violence that started on January 26 as well as the steps taken to restore peace in Kasganj and its adjoining areas. The state government has also been asked to provide details about the steps taken against those involved in the violence,” the official added, asking not to be identified.
