Cen­tre tells UP to sub­mit re­port on Kas­ganj clashes

NEWDELHI: The min­istry of home af­fairs (MHA) on Tuesday sought an of­fi­cial re­port from the Ut­tar Pradesh govern­ment re­gard­ing com­mu­nal clashes in Kas­ganj near Aligarh, where a 23-year-old man was killed on Jan­uary 26.

A se­nior home min­istry of­fi­cial said the min­istry has asked the UP govern­ment for the se­quence of events that led to the clashes as well as death of Chan­dan Gupta. Two oth­ers suf­fered griev­ous in­juries in the en­su­ing clashes, in­clud­ing Lakhim­pur Kheri res­i­dent Mo­hammed Akram who was driv­ing through Kas­ganj town on Fri­day night on his way to Aligarh. At least three shops, two buses and a car were torched dur­ing the clashes

“MHA has asked the state govern­ment to send a com­pre­hen­sive re­port about the vi­o­lence that started on Jan­uary 26 as well as the steps taken to re­store peace in Kas­ganj and its ad­join­ing ar­eas. The state govern­ment has also been asked to pro­vide de­tails about the steps taken against those in­volved in the vi­o­lence,” the of­fi­cial added, ask­ing not to be iden­ti­fied.
