England U19 captain dropped for indiscipli­ne

CHRISTCHUR­CH: England Under-19 captain Harry Brook was dropped for the final match of his team’s World Cup campaign on Tuesday in the latest disciplina­ry issue to hit English cricket. Vice-captain Will Jacks took over from Brook and led England to a 32-run win over New Zealand in the playoff for seventh place. In a statement, the Internatio­nal Cricket Council said England confirmed Brook had been dropped for “a disciplina­ry matter, but are yet to disclose a reason.” Brook had scored a century and two half centuries at the tournament, to average 119.5. Born September 8, 1999, in village Chak Khere Wala in Jalalabad, Punjab.

The Gills moved to Mohali when Shubman was eight so he could pursue the sport. Enrolled in the Mohali Cricket Academy, near the Punjab Cricket Stadium. Grabbed headlines when he was involved in a world record opening-wicket stand of 587 with Nirmal Singh in an inter-district U-16 tournament (Shubman made a 277-ball 351 for Mohali) in 2014.

Was named the best junior cricketer by the BCCI for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Loves shopping, playing FIFA on PlayStatio­n, listening to peppy Punjabi numbers and trying out funky hairdos with U-19 and Punjab team-mate Abhishek Sharma.

Hasn’t consumed sugar in a while to maintain fitness and trains regularly. Loves boiled vegetables and salads. Idolises Virat Kohli for his skill, passion and fitness. Considers U-19 coach Rahul Dravid as mentor.

Made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2017-18 season and scored his maiden first-class century against Services. The 203-run victory on Tuesday is also India's biggest against Pakistan in ODIs (junior and senior). Senior India's biggest victory over Pakistan is by 140 runs at Dhaka in June, 2008 India U-19's 174-run victory at Lahore in September,2006 was their previous biggest over Pakistan.

69 all out is Pakistan's lowest total in U-19 ODIs. Their previous lowest was 70 against England at Merbein in March,1988
