‘There’ll never be another Kapil, no point comparing him with Pandya’

KOLKATA:With the kind of disdain with which he would dispatch deliveries in the arc between square-leg and midwicket irrespective of where they were pitched, Mohammed Azharuddin dismissed suggestions of Hardik Pandya being the next Kapil Dev.

Speaking to reporters at a school sport’s event here where he was the chief guest, Azharuddin simply said: “There will never be another Kapil Dev.”

All talk of Pandya, therefore, to the former India captain was just that. Talk.

“It is not advisable to compare them. It is not good. Because there can never be another Kapil Dev.

“Just think of the amount of hard work he did and the workload he too over a period of time. He would bowl 20-25 overs in day. Not many people can do that,” said Azharuddin.

Pandya, who played three Tests against South Africa, produced only one knock of 93 at Cape Town. A series of low scores followed, which copped a lot of criticism by ex-players.
