TO MARK THREE YEARS IN POWER IN DELHI, THE AAP IS TAKING OUT VIKAS YATRA

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that his government could achieve only half of what they had hoped to do in the threeyear tenure because of the hurdles created by the Centre.

Kejriwal was speaking at a meeting in his New Delhi constituency, which was part of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s Vikas Yatra. Under the programme, all party MLAs and volunteers reached out to the people in all the assembly constituencies in Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party government completes three years in office on February 14. Without taking names, Kejriwal said lot of “problems were being created” but his government is “committed to work for public welfare”.

“Please have faith in us. So far, we have done half of the works we could have done in the last three years because they (the BJP-led Centre) are creating hurdles in all our files (works). All works (which were promised) will be done, it is just a matter of time,” the CM told a gathering in his constituency.

Kejriwal said that the government would soon start the doorstep delivery of 40 key services such as birth certificate, driving license, etc. “With this scheme in place you do not have to make rounds of various offices to get your certificates made. The government will come to your doorstep for your work. We are also coming out with a scheme to start home delivery of ration to the card holders,” Kejriwal said.

The leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said the chief minister’s remarks were an “excuse for his failure”. “They failed to deliver on their promises. The AAP has been indulging in blame game ever since it came to power in Delhi. By making such statements, the AAP wants to divert attention from the real issues,” Gupta said.

The AAP government is holding the Vikas Yata at a time when Delhi is staring at bypolls, following the disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs for holding office of profit. The case is pending before the Delhi high court.

Development minister Gopal Rai, social welfare minister Rajender Pal Gautam and transport minister Kailash Gahlot also participated in ‘Vikas Yatra’ in their constituencies and said their party had provided round the clock electricity and free water.
