BOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD TELEVISION RAMSAY’S FILM, A HIT AT CANNES
The 11th day at Cannes Film Festival saw two major premiers Based on a True Story and You Were Never really Here
Cannes Film Festival is coming to an end and the last two big premiers, Based on a True Story, directed by Roman Polanski, and Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, were screened on the 11th day.
Lynne Ramsay’s stark and sinewy slashed-to-the-bone thriller, You Were Never Really Here, stars actor Joaquin Phoenix, playing a hitman, whose choice of weapon is a hammer. The story revolves around a warveteran trying to rescue a girl from sex-trafficking. The film was greatly appreciated by critics, and was considered by many as “saving the best for the last”. In fact, Ramsay was allowed to enter the movie for the Palme d’Or without showing the selection committee a finished version. Rumour is that she was in a hurry to get the film ready for the festival, as there were no screen credits at the end.
Another film that was showcased at the festival was Roman Polanski’s Based on a True Story. The film stars actor Eva Green and is a fanobsessed suspense thriller, based on the French novel by Delphine de Vigan. However, the film, that was screened at the Palais des Festivals, failed to garner much appreciation at the festival. In fact, The Guardian gave its verdict of how the film “fell flat” at the festival and that the story had “gaping pot holes”. Green, along with Polanski as well as filmmaker Emmanuelle Seigner attended the screening. Other guests who were present were Un Certain Regard jury president Uma Thurman and Karolina Kurkova.
