Many ‘piece of art’ songs that I’ve produced haven’t been big hits. [But] I’m happy I could make great music irrespective of their commercial stature MEGHDEEP BOSE, MUSIC PRODUCER

Main Hoon Hero Tera (Hero; 2015), Bol Do Na Zara (Azhar; 2016) and Jab Tak (MS Dhoni: The Untold Story; 2016) — Meghdeep Bose is the man behind some of the biggest hit songs such as these and more. But he’s not running after commercial success. That, says the music producer, is a happy by-product of his constant efforts to make great music.

“Every time I produce, I just adhere to my composer’s brief on the song, and keep in mind the situation that I’m producing for. The commercial success of the song has never been an agenda for me. To state the fact, many ‘piece of art’ songs I’ve produced, haven’t been such hits. But, I’m happy I could make great music irrespective of their commercial stature,” says Meghdeep.

He admits that music producers and composers are often “pressed by music labels” to release hit songs. “We’re restricted to a template and genre for commercial safety. So, delivering a fresh track within the same genre is a challenge,” says Meghdeep, adding, “I go with fresh writing styles and the right selection of elements.”

The Indore born producer, who has been in the industry for more than five years, says there’s a symbiotic relation between music composers and producers. “A composer is one who makes the main melody or tune of a song, basically what you hum and sing. A music producer wraps that melody with harmonies, rhythm, sonic scapes, turning it into a record that could be played on different platforms. The tune is like a naked body, and the productions are the attire that give it a distinct look,” he explains.
