Kangana sets out on a joyous journey
National award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta is known for making realistic films, and his forthcoming venture, Simran, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, promises to be the same.
Kangana, who has won acclaim in the past for roles in which she is seen as an independent woman, will be essaying the character of Praful Patel, a woman who pursues happiness, despite several hurdles.
Speaking about the character, Mehta says, “Praful is a coming-of-age woman who is unapologetic, ambitious, free-spirited and desirous of independence beyond what her family already allows her. She is a divorcee who does not fear making her own decisions. The film will take you through the stigma attached to choices and how Simran breaks stereotypes attached to divorce.”
Interestingly, the film also touches on another aspect — that of the lives of Indians settled in the US. In the film, Kangana is an NRI who is aspiring to make a better living for herself. Through the film, Mehta speaks about their simple, isolated lives and their aspirations and ambitions. “Simran is a film that is joyous, lighthearted and yet layered with truth. The film shows that it’s okay to be flawed and unapologetic,” says Mehta.
A T-Series, Karma Features PVT. LTD. & Adarsh Telemedia film, Simran stars Kangana Ranaut, is directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Shailesh R Singh. The film releases today.
