Ravana that’s 125ft tall!
For years, Old Delhi has proudly been burning the tallest effigies of Ravana. This year, you’d find it at the Dwarka Shree Ramlila Society in Dwarka Sector 10. Standing at a height of 125ft, this Ravana effigy is believed to be a fancy one, too.
“We wanted to give visitors a spectacle. The effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnad will be something to watch out for. Our Ravana is not only the tallest but will also be decorated really well. Each body part of the effigy will be decorated with bright colours and ornaments, and the eyes of the Ravana will shine. The firework display will also amaze the visitors,” says Rajesh Gahlot, mukhya sanrakshak (chief patron) of the society.
Gahlot adds that an effigy depicting China will also be burned today at the Ramlila at Dwarka’s Sector 10 because of the recent Indo-China tension. “Burning Ravana is symbolic of ridding ourselves of evils. Hence, the effigy,” he says.
