Mohit Raina’s portrayal of Lord Shiva on the TV show Devon Ke Dev – Mahadev got appreciation from all corners, to the extent that it has become an iconic role. His fans still recognise him through that character and Mohit says it’s a role that will stay with him forever.

“It’s not every day that you get to play a role like that, a role that everyone likes. The character will remain with me forever. I’ve portrayed it for a long time — almost five years — and when that happens, people start identifying you with the role,” says Mohit.

“I try and ensure that the other characters, which I’ve already done or am currently doing, should also make a mark,” adds the actor.

After Devon Ke Dev – Mahadev ended in 2014, Mohit did another mythological show, Mahabharat, and then a historical show, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat. In fact, his latest show is also in the historical genre. Asked whether he’s fascinated by these two genres, Mohit answers in affirmative.

“Both mythology and history interest me. Such stories have been there for long, hence there’s a reference point for the actor, too... The audience enjoys watching such stories,” he adds.

Nonetheless, Mohit is open to other genres. He had earlier done shows such as Bhabhi, Bandini, and Ganga Kii Dheej. “There should be something interesting enough for me to say yes [to a show]. Right now, I’m more inclined towards doing finite series. They don’t become monotonous,” he says.
