Ever since singer Kanika Kapoor crooned her way into the hearts of millions of music lovers with her song Baby Doll (Ragini MMS 2, 2014), hers has been a success story, with peppy chartbusters like Lovely (Happy New Year, 2014) and Chittiyaan Kalaiyan (Roy, 2015) regularly coming her way. However, Kanika’s popularity isn’t restricted to India. She was recently invited to the Buckingham Palace in London to perform for Prince Charles and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Ecstatic about the experience, Kanika shares, “It was a huge honour to meet Prince Charles. This was the third time I met him, but performing in front of him was a first. I am really glad the opportunity came my way, and it was amazing to be hosted by him.”

Asked about the songs she sang at the event, the 10th anniversary celebration of the British Asian Trust, she tells us, “It was heartwarming to witness the popularity of Indian music overseas. The music I performed, was a mix of Sufi and English. The lineup was curated by English DJ and music producer Naughty Boy, who also performed at the event.”

About how the listeners reacted, she says, “The performance was very good, and everyone loved it. His Royal Highness and the Duchess wanted to understand the meaning of the song Kabhi Kabhie (the title song of the 1976 film of the same name), as it was dedicated to them! I met them again after the performance, and they had a conversation with me about all the songs I sang, a bit about them. They really enjoyed it.”
