Even his diehard fans might have been losing heart, but comedian-actor Kapil Sharma is a fighter who doesn’t give up easily. After a break from all public appearances and television shows, he’s back with his first Punjabi production, an emotional story about a father and son.

Once the uncrowned king of Indian comedy, Kapil was out of sight for close to a year, but definitely not out of mind. He reveals, “Obviously, pyaar milta hai toh achha lagta hai. Yahi pyaar energy deta hai. There are so many ups and downs one faces in life. What cures one in this low phase is the love you get from people. There’s no better medicine.”

Now that he has announced his new show, what are the reactions he’s getting? “I was away from social networking websites for a long time, but when I started browsing recently, I saw many people had left messages. Aap believe nahi karenge, main apna page dikhaun? More than 20 lakh unread messages are there on my fan page! It isn’t practically possible to reply to each message. But I try ki jitna ho sake main padhoon,” smiles a clearly happy Kapil. He’s excited talking about the fan love. “I just came to the venue, one lady was saying ‘My mom is so old. She was asking me ‘Kapil kab aa raha hai? Theek hai na voh?’ Log itna pyaar karte hain.

I went to the Golden Temple [in Amritsar] recently to seek blessings, and one aged man held my hand and said, ‘Oye! Kahaan tha tu? Kidhar ghum raha hai? Kahaan reh gaya tha?’ People show so much affection, I feel I’m one among them,” he adds.

There are also reports that Kapil is set to marry Ginni Chatrath this December this. Is it true? “Ghuggi paaji (the lead in Kapil’s Punjabi film) aur meri mummy chaah rahe hain ki main shaadi karoon, but my focus is on my film. My family is doing the preparations, but I didn’t have the time to give to the wedding (at that time), par ho raha hai ji, bas,” says Kapil.

Another positive is that now that he’s planning to come back, everyone, including fellow comic Sunil Grover (with whom he had a fallout) is being supportive. “Everyone is my friend,” says Kapil, “kyunki aisa kabhi nahi hua ki kabhi bhi kisi ko hurt kiya ho. Everyone loves me, and we’ve been together for many years. We are all coming together.”
