‘I’ve always been a huge fan of Rahman’s music’
Yo Yo Honey Singh might have been away from action in the music industry for a while but with his new compositions, it seems, the singer-composer is set to return to the groove with a bang. Known for churning out some party numbers such as Angrezi Beat, Blue Eyes, Lungi Dance, Dil Chori, which instantly went on to become chartbusters, he is now making buzz with the recreated version of the cult song Urvashi Urvashi. The original in the 1994 film Humse Hai Muqabala featured the dancing legend Prabhudheva.
The new version featuring actors Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, has hooked the audience with its groovy beat of original and its chorus. And Yo Yo feels privileged to have got this chance to recreate an AR Rahman creation.
Sharing his excitement of Urvashi’s song success, Honey Singh shares, “I’ve always been a huge fan of AR Rahman’s music. The original Urvashi has been one of my personal favourites. I remember listening to it on loop when it was out. The song is easy, breezy with some soothing tunes, quirky lyrics and Prabhudheva’s antics are a treat.”
He admits he secretly wished to give a modern twist to it one day. “I always had this thought of recreating it [my way]. I reworked the lyrics and vibe, I’m so grateful to get this opportunity,” says the singer, who also wrote and did the rap for the track Rangtaari in the recently released LoveYatri.
