A day after they found a charred body in a burnt car in southwest Delhi, police arrested a 38-year-old man on Friday for the murder of his lawyer father.

Abhinav, a manager with a publishing house, clubbed Subhash Baweja, 65, with a baseball bat and strangled him with a bedsheet on Wednesday night for refusing to transfer property in his name, police said.

Abhinav wanted money to start his own business and had asked his father’s help who refused.

“Investigations revealed that Abhinav was pressuring his father into transferring property in his name… but he refused. They often had heated arguments,” police said.

After killing his father in their Kirti Nagar home, Abhinav wrapped the body in a sheet, put it in the family car and drove to Kapashera, police said.

He found a lonely spot, stripped the body and set the car ablaze. A police patrol found the body the next morning and an investigation was launched. The family was traced through the chassis number of the car.

Early in the probe, police got to know about Abhinav’s strained ties with his father and started tracking his phone. A few hours later, he was arrested from his home.

During questioning, Abhinav confessed to the crime. He said he murdered his father as he refused to give him money despite repeated requests, police said.
