Rani Bagh to get parking complex for 2,500 cars
THE CIVIC BODY HAS FLOATED TENDERS AND THE PROCESS WILL BE FINISHED BY NEXT MONTH. IT WILL BE BUILT ON BOT BASIS
Parking woes of west Delhi’s residents will ease with the North Delhi Municipal Corporation all set to launch the area’s biggest multi-level parking complex in Rani Bagh area.
Civic body officials said the project will be ready by mid2017. The parking lot will have a capacity of over 2,500 cars. The four-storey complex will have two underground floors for parking and the rest markets and cinema halls, said North Delhi Mayor Ravinder Gupta.
The project will come up on a 4,000 square metre property of the north corporation, situated near the market area in Rani Bagh and is expected to solve the lack of parking space problem for residents of west Delhi.
Sources said the tenders for the project have already been floated and a final decision is expected by next month.
“We have already rolled out the tenders and sought applications from private companies. The project will be constructed on build-operate-transfer method whereby the corporation will not have to pay for the construction. Further to make sure that the concessionaire doesn’t incur losses, he will be given the entire project on lease for five years,” said Gupta.
Senior officials also told HT that the profit will be shared with the corporation.
Apart from the upcoming project, the north corporation has six other multi-level parkings under its jurisdiction namely, Gandhi Mela Ground, Church Mission road, Asaf Ali Road, Model Town II, Parade Ground, and Kamla Nagar with a total parking capacity of 6,138 cars.
