EC wants transfer of Bihar home secy

-

The Election Commission on Friday directed state government to transfer 10 IAS and seven IPS officers, including the state home secretary Amir Subhani and replace him with Sudhir Kumar Rajkesh with immediate effect.

The EC has directed that Subhani might be given any suitable post but not to any electionrelated work. The government could post any other officer as secretary of the general administration department, which was held by Subhani.

The BJP had on July 7 specifically urged the EC to ensure the immediate removal of Subhani, who it said was occupying the post for the past six years.

State BJP president Mangal Pandey, who led a seven-member delegation, had met chief election commissioner Nasim Zaidi to express party’s apprehension that free and fair polls were not possible under the home secretary at the helm. “Subhani has not only overstayed on his present assignment but his close proximity with chief minister Nitish Kumar was also well known,” he said.

Pandey said that it was rare to have any senior officer staying at one place for more than two years, but Subhani was an exception. Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi had said, “He has overstayed on his post for almost six years. The government should explain what is so special about him or why is he indispensible?”
