PM Modi failed to deliver on ‘acche din’ promise, taunts Lalu

RJD chief Lalu Prasad was his witty self on Friday as he took on rivals with sarcasm laced one-liners, charging Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to deliver on the poll promise of ‘acche din’. He did not spare his ally either, accusing Congress of giving a long rope to the civil society campaign against corruption, leading to the rise of AAP and in doing so, writing its own epitaph.

Prasad’s ‘ hurt’ came for AAP’s campaign against tainted politicians, in which he often found the guns trained on himself. However, he was also quick to defend AAP’s joining hands with JD(U) in Grand Alliance as a ‘ tactical step to stop BJP nationally’.

“AAP has joined us to defeat BJP,” he said, at the IBN Bihar Dialogue- 2.0 in partnership with HT. Prasad was at his colourful best, regaling his audience, saying, “Where’s the fight? We have already won the elections.” He used market lingo to sell himself, saying he was a brand with a global audience.

Weaving humour with serious notes, Prasad said, “Women love to take selfies with me. I tell them not to misuse it,” even as he took another potshot at the BJP for failing to repatriate black money.

“The PM and his ministers are reporting to the RSS. Isn’t that correct?” he asked. Lalu maintained his 15-year rule in Bihar had been wrongly portrayed as ‘Jungle Raj’. Comparing how upper castes held dominance before the 90s in Bihar, Prasad played the Mandal card too, saying the BJP was peeved that two brothers (Nitish Kumar and Prasad) from backward classes have again united.
