Delhi Congress on Monday held first of its public interactions planned at famous street food joints at the ‘Nale Ki Chaat’ in Bharat Nagar in north Delhi. The Congress is running the ‘Dilli ki Baat, Dil ke Saath’ campaign for the April 23 municipal elections.

Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said the party will work out solutions rather than giving excuses for not resolving the issues of the people.

“We do not believe in making charges and counter charges, but doing concrete work to take the MCDs functioning to the highest level. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from Delhi, and stays here, but under his nose, the sanitation workers of Delhi had to go on strike five times to get their salaries,” he said.

Maken said if any leader who raised his voice in support of the sanitation workers, it was Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress leader said the Aam Aadmi Party also did not do justice with the sanitation workers. “There are 60,000 sanitation workers in Delhi, of which 10,000 are employed on an ad-hoc basis. The Congress will regularise all the ad-hoc sanitation workers, and their arrears totaling around ₹1,563 crore would be cleared,” he said.

Questioning the house tax waiver announcement by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Maken said the senior leaders of the party have taught the Congress workers to make only those promises that can be fulfilled.

Answering another question about the garbage piling up in Delhi, Maken said the Congress party has prepared a draft roadmap for solid waste management and sanitation.
