AAP to hold 1,000 ward-level meetings

NEWDELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party is making all efforts to keep the political discourse for the April 23 municipal elections to gravitate around local issues related to the day-to-day life of Delhi citizens.

The AAP leaders, led by Delhi ministers and party legislators, have started campaigning aggressively in different parts of the city raising local issues and the work done by the Arvind Kejriwal government, especially those in health, education, water supply and power subsidy.

The announcement of house tax waiver is likely to be one of the biggest pitches in the campaign.

“Our campaign strategy is Delhi-centric. We know that the people of Delhi want to hear about solutions for Delhi’s problems from their leaders. Also, MCD elections are highly localized so we will holding ward-wise meetings,” said Ashish Talwar, in-charge Delhi (AAP).

The strategy comes in wake of the BJP planning to field a battery of top leaders including chief ministers from other states and union ministers to campaign for the party candidates.

AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Dilip Pandey, Rakhi Bidlan, Rajendra Gautam and others have already begun campaigning. CM Arvind Kejriwal will begin his campaign from Burari on March 31. “The party leaders are expected to do more than 1,000 ward-centric sabhas,” an AAP leader said.

AAP leaders also dismissed that the top guns of BJP will be able to sway voters in favour of the saffron party.

“Ahead of the 2015 assembly elections, several stories were doing rounds that several BJP MPs and ministers will be campaigning in Delhi. The result was for all to see. The BJP is repeating the mistakes of 2015 and will be trounced as it was in the Delhi assembly elections,” an AAP leader said.
