So what’s the UP CM’s name? Nameplates add to confusion

- Letters@hindustantimes.com

LUCKNOW: Is it Yogi Adityanath, Yogi Aditya Nath or Aditya Nath Yogi?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have won the Uttar Pradesh assembly election with a clear majority but there is one thing there seems to need a little clarity: The exact name of the chief minister.

Since March 19, when the chief priest of Gorakhnath Math was picked for the top post, the nameplate outside his official 5 Kalidas Marg residence has undergone regular changes even before he officially entered it on the first day of Navratri on Tuesday.

Just before he was sworn in as the CM 10 days back, the name plate read: Yogi Aditya Nath with ‘Yogi’ in smaller font. But at the swearing-in ceremony, he called himself Aditya Nath Yogi.

Subsequent press notes sent from the information department didn’t help matters either with some referring to him as Aditya Nath Yogi while others Yogi Aditya Nath.

His verified twitter handle says myogiadityanath while his facebook account says Yogi Adityanath.

None of his election affidavit used the prefix Yogi at all even as there were variations in the name.

The correct spelling? “Technically it is two words: Aditya Nath. Aditya signifies his first name. Nath denotes the sect to which he belongs,” an aide told HT.

“For us it doesn’t matter how his name is being spelled. We know him as ‘chhotey Maharaj’ and that’s what he is to us,” said another.
