North body plans to better swachh rating
NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation is roping in residents’ bodies in its cleanliness initiatives after it ranked poorly in the Swachch Survekshan survey 2017.
The north, east and south MCD ranked 279, 202 and 196 under the Swachh Survekshan2017 out of 434 cities surveyed.
In a recent meeting with senior officials, North Delhi municipal commissioner said the survey report should be analysed in detail and measures to improve the ranking be suggested.
The officials have also been asked to seek help from Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) in planning the initiatives.
A senior official of the North corporation, who was present during the meeting, said, “Officials at the zone level have been asked to prioritise the projects taking RWAs into confidence.”
There are several localities in North Delhi which are very congested and even auto-tippers cannot enter the lanes. As a result, garbage often remains uncollected in these areas.
The corporation workers have been asked to discuss with RWAs and fix a spot where the local residents would dispose the garbage and the civic bodies’ tippers could collect it from there, he added.
UNAUTHORISED CONSTRUCTION
The corporation has observed that several unauthorized constructions have cropped up in the area during the municipal polls, including the under-construction one in Inderpuri which collapsed on a nearby building injuring five people.
The commissioner has ordered five major demolition drives to be taken up every week in each zone of the corporation to curb illegal construction.
