Some young kids have no idea about how to apply, where to go, what is the eligibility criteria. So they come to us... SWETA SINGH, DU alumnus

NEWDELHI:The third day of Delhi University’s Open Day event saw a handful of ex-students flocking to the North Campus, to gain more relevant information about the latest admission procedures. They were there to help guide the new flock of aspirants, who reach out to them, for more information.

For many college applicants, ex-students are the primary source of information. The questions range from what course to take, how to apply, calculating the ‘best four’ score and which college to choose to will they be eligible for their desired courses.

“The admission period can be very stressful time for both students and parents. Many find the idea of college to be daunting. Some young kids have no idea about how to apply, where to go, what is the eligibility criteria. So they come to us, because they think as we had gone through the procedure years ago, we will be able to help them out,” said Sweta Singh, who had completed her BCom in 2014 from DU.

However, with admission procedures changing every year, not all old students will be able to answer their questions. This bunch of approximately 10 ‘good Samaritan’ alumni have taken it up on themselves to ensure that they are equipped with all the relevant information to help the next generation.

“This is sort of a social service on our part. I want to help the young kids who come and ask me for inside information on how to make it to DU. During our time, things were different. There were not as many courses, and the cut-offs were not this high. So, I am here today so that I can guide them better,” said Soni Narayan, an ex-student of Delhi University who completed her BCom (Hons) in 2014.
