After Saina, Sindhu in BWF commission

GOLDCOAST (AUSTRALIA): Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu on Wednesday became the second Indian after her compatriot Saina Nehwal to be inducted in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes’ Commission.

Sindhu emerged the highest voted player in the BWF Athletes’ Commission election that took place on the sidelines of the Sudirman Cup here.

The Hyderabad shuttler topped the ballot with 129 votes and will be joined by Marc Zweibler of Germany and Kristy Gilmour of Scotland for a four-year term. The trio will be joined by Lithuania’s Akvile Stapusaity­te, who will be serving a two-year tenure after replacing China’s Tan Yuanting, who retired after serving just two years on the panel.

NEW DELHI: In a historic first for Indian boxing, Frenchman Stephane Cottalorda, an AIBA three-star coach, has been roped in to train the country’s women pugilists for a nearly two-year term. The 41-year-old, who is a member of the European Boxing Confederat­ion’s coaches commission, will be joining the boxers in the first week of June.

WON’T SUBMIT ISL BID DOCUMENT: BAGAN

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan said they would not submit the bid document unless their three demands are met in order to be inducted into Indian Super League.

The last year’s I-League champions collected the Invitation To Bid document on the last day and Thursday is the deadline to submit it.

“The Indian constituti­on has been amended many times after its formation, and similarly here, the dates for a private organisati­on can also be changed,” said Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra.
