The college first came into existence as Nirmala College in 1951. It was started by the American Jesuits in an evacuee building in Qutab Road, Old Delhi in the wake of the partition. In July 1954, its management named it after its main trustee, Seth Kirori Mal

The science department­s have received star status award PROGRAMME: BA Hons in Eco, Hindi, English, History, Pol Sci, Sanskrit, Music, Philosophy, BA Prog, BCom (Hons) and BSc (Hons) in Biochemist­ry, Botany, Chemistry, Maths, Zoology, BSc Life Science. It also enrols students at Masters level and holds MA tutorials. The college offers diploma courses in 7 foreign languages and skill developmen­t courses
